Our youngest hangar worker is Tom. He is 15 years old and is a Year 10 student who has an avid interest in aviation. He recently moved to Werribee, saw the restoration work that we were doing and so volunteered. Tom works every Sunday and also during the school holidays. Tom's ambition is to enlist in the RAAF and become a pilot. He is also a member of the RAAF Cadets and is a member of No. 418 Squadron located at RAAF Base, Point Cook.
Last week at the hangar, Tom worked on the P&W engine; having been one of the crew who serviced the engine after it ran at the Geelong Vintage Machinery Show. Tom enjoys working at the hangar because he is working on a real aircraft and thus can learn about its various operating systems. He also helps out as a tour guide and so he has acquired a good knowledge of the history of the A72-176 as well as how everything works.
